Understand the perspectives of Jace Joiner (Senior), Charlie Soper (Sophomore), and Ryker Stelling (Freshmen) on how SigEp has made a difference in their college career.
Jace Joiner (354), is a Senior, Majoring in Professional Sales.
Why did you join SigEp? I joined SigEp because I sought friendship. I originally applied for the Balanced Man Scholarship and was asked to attend at least three events. Upon going to these events, I developed friendships with the SiGEp members and decided to join as I sought the friendship they had with each other. Upon joining I was introduced to the idea of brotherhood and was immediately interested in getting involved. I joined for friendship, but stayed because of the brotherhood that I found.
How has SigEp benefited you with your experiences so far? SigEp has given me the tools to grow as a leader, mentor, boyfriend, and professional. Through SigEp’s Balanced Man Program, I was given opportunities to grow in several areas of my life, which opened doors and opportunities for executive leadership roles, mentorship, and leading mental health initiatives. I have also been enriched by SigEp through the accountability and support that my brothers have shown me. My brothers have picked me up at my lowest, and encouraged me at moments of achievement, which has enabled me a sense of purpose and belonging unlike any other.
What is your advice for future brothers? First and foremost, learn to have fun in all things. Learning to enjoy the present moment and have fun while accomplishing your objectives is one of the most important things you can do. Having fun and spending wholesome time with your brothers allows for a college experience that you will forever remember. Additionally, In order to be effective and to thrive as a developing college man, you must be able to balance a pursuit of a sound mind and body appropriately while focusing on personal enrichment and fun. Developing yourself physically, while also achieving academic excellence does not come naturally, but must be obtained through hard work. Being too busy will impede your personal development, and through learning to slow down and develop relationships, your collegiate experience will be thoroughly enriched.
Charlie Soper (403), is a Sophomore, Majoring in Cybersecurity.
Why did you join SigEp? I had been introduced to the brothers during one of the recruitment events and thought that these were the type of people to lift me up and do better within the university.
