Work hard, play hard. That is what our brothers from Platteville did this year at the 25th iteration of the Carlson Leadership Academy (CLA) in Chicago, IL. CLA offers brothers the chance to learn the ins and outs of chapter leadership. Seven chapter members joined over 500 other brothers from across the mid-west for multiple different tracks including the Shawn McKenna Presidents Academy, Chaplain, and VP’s of Programming, Finance, and Communications. Throughout the weekend, these brothers gained valuable skills to strengthen the positions they hold, as well as learn valuable leadership practices. They learned from several influential and successful speakers who are alumni and volunteers from chapters across the nation. Among these included former Director of Growth, Tom Barton, who was influential in the start up of the chapter at UW-Platteville.
Along with new leadership skills, these men brought back several awards for excellence in different aspects. The chapter captured its second Excelsior Award for Recruitment off the back of a record-breaking Balanced Man Scholarship (BMS) in the fall that saw upwards of 300 applicatants. The UW-Platteville SigEp alumni also took home some hardware, winning the Outstanding Operational Excellence Award for the amazing work done by our Alumni and Volunteer Corporation. Alumnus Christopher Yerges was also recognized for his efforts with BMS by winning Volunteer of the Year for District 17.
Overall, CLA was very successful for UW-Platteville’s SigEp chapter this year. On top of the many awards, the men who attended learned valuable skills to bring back to the undergraduate chapter. These men will be the driving force in bringing more positive change to our chapter in the next year, with the help of our strong core of alumni and volunteers. We will forever be SigEp strong.
