As you may know, the Alumni and Volunteer Corporation adopted new bylaws last fall that drastically changed the structure of the AVC. This article is going to highlight some of those structural changes.
Trustees vs Directors
Previously, the Alumni and Volunteer Corporation was governed by a 15-member board of trustees elected to three-year terms. An executive board was then elected from these trustees to manage day-to-day operations. To empower trustees and better address the Corporation’s diverse needs, new bylaws were adopted. These established named Director roles, each with specific responsibilities. Below is a list of each of the Director roles.
- President
- Vice President
- Treasurer
- Secretary
- Director of Quality Operations
- Director of Awards and Scholarships
- Director of AVC Member and Alumni Relations
- Director of Parent and Guardian Relations
- Director of Philanthropy and Community Relations
- Director of Fundraising
- Director of Assets and Housing
- Director of Communications
- Director of Alumni and Volunteer Recruitment
- 2x At-large Directors
The Directors also meet once a month to discuss important items that may be brought before the whole Corporation. Check out the WI-Theta AVC Bylaws to see the specific duties of each Director.
The AVC Executive Board
As mentioned earlier, the 15 directors elect an executive board that consists of the President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.
-
President: Presides over all meetings of the AVC and the Board of Directors. This officer represents the AVC on all official occasions. They also provide general supervision over the other Officers and each of the Directors to ensure that their duties are being properly performed.
- Vice President: This officer is responsible for coordinating AVC member retention by planning events, socials, and other opportunities that are beneficial to the members of the AVC. They also assume all responsibilities in absence of the President!
- Treasurer: This officer is responsible for keeping accurate account of all receipts and disbursements of the AVC. They are also responsible for any assets of the Corporation.
- Secretary: This officer is responsible for keeping all records of all meetings of the AVC and the Board. They also manage the AVC calendar and other social media accounts of the Chapter.
The Executive Board comprises several cabinets, each led by an Executive Director and encompassing related Director positions and committees. In the coming months, we publish a series of articles delving into the responsibilities and composition of each cabinet.
