A Banquet Weekend To Remember

Every spring, Wisconsin-Theta Alumni, family, friends, and volunteers return to Platteville to celebrate the chapter’s accomplishments, meet the undergraduate chapter, and reconnect with other alumni at our spring banquet weekend. This recent banquet was special and will be dearly remembered for years to come.

To kick off this incredible weekend, Wisconsin-Theta performed our take on the Burning Heart Ceremony on Friday, April 21st. Since 1998, Wisconsin-Theta has been igniting kerosene-soaked cardboard in cans on the Platte Mound M to display a heart with our letters within. This ceremony takes 3 months to prepare and attain permission from local authorities. To perform the ceremony, 10 men are needed on the mound, with 4 men reading at the viewing grounds. By the numbers, 2023 marks the 25th anniversary of Wisconsin-Theta’s take on this ceremony. 10 gallons of kerosene were used to soak 220 rolls of cardboard in cans. On Saturday after the annual AVC meeting, we hosted an alumni/undergraduate bowling outing. This was a fantastic avenue for alumni to meet current undergraduates. 

Later in the evening approximately 100 alumni, family, friends, and volunteers gathered in Velzy Commons to celebrate the chapter’s accomplishments. As a fantastic dinner was served by the chapter’s advisor Jon Peavey, undergraduate President Kyle Brown delivered the State of the Chapter address. Highlights of this address included the many brothers in leadership roles across campus, Carter Forseth’s and Will Foucault’s acceptance into the Ruck Leadership Institute, setting a record 3.6 GPA in the spring of 2022, and back-to-back homecoming wins.
